Support for Our House

Support for Our House
Like Home & Family, the grade-one heritage building is rich with history, having been the original home of Nurse Maude’s dispensary and the first base from which a district nursing office operated. Now known as ‘Our House’, it has supported the people of Christchurch for 120 years, the same as Home & Family.

After a successful fundraising campaign, a contract was finally signed with Simon Construction last April 2017 for work to begin on Our House’s restoration. The project found itself up in the air between September 2017 and January of this year – quite literally, as the historic building was suspended above ground while essential foundation works were undertaken to repair earthquake damage. Thanks to the skill of Heritage Lifters, this delicate undertaking was a success and the house has since been returned to the ground while interior and exterior works take place concurrently.

The project is set to be complete by April this year, thanks not only to the wonderful work of Fulton Ross Architects, Beca and of course Simon, but to the exceptional project management of our Chair Phillip Duval, generous donations and a lot of kindness.

In addition to grants & donations totalling just over $2.3 million, the project has been the recipient of close to $300,000 worth of support in kind, from both local and international businesses and individuals. Support has ranging from discounted professional services, to free carpeting, half price paint, donated cabling and free heating equipment.

As the project nears completion we are hugely thankful to the following people and organisations for their kindness, efforts and generous donations:
  • Barrer & Co.
  • Jenny May
  • Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Trust
  • Lion Foundation
  • The Mayoral Fund
  • The Tindall Foundation
